Scary Monsters and Nice... Earthquakes?

Okay, so this previous Saturday night there was an earthquake.
Why is this a big deal?
I live in the American Midwest. Earthquakes just don't happen here.
To be honest, there's a fault that runs along the Mississippi River, I do believe, that caused a massive earthquake in the early 1800s, and if that fault were to sudden shift then it could be disasterous in the damage and force of the quake.

But the thing is the fact that the quake was so small, a lot of people didn't even feel it. I think it was like a 4.0 on the Richter or something like that. However, you could feel little
